Six Body Parts Important For Good Ergonomics

When we speak about ergonomics, there are, in particular 6 body parts that are vulnerable to bad ergonomics and which we need to watch out for, so that there is no likelihood of health problems ensuing:

Neck: Holding the phone between the shoulder and the ear, looking down for long periods of time and other actions can cause strain in the neck muscles leading to neck stiffness and other related disease.

Shoulders: Bad posture, working with the hands above your head and slumping of the shoulders can all be invitations to shoulder related strains and even problems such as rotator cuff tendinitis.

Fingers, Hands, Wrists: Small and repetitive movements made by these body parts as well as repeated exposure to vibrations over long periods and over several years can lead to all kinds of problems including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Tenosynovitis, white finger, De Quervain’s Disease, etc.

Back: The back is another casualty to poorly designed ergonomics, particularly seating as well as poor posture when engaged in sitting for long uninterrupted periods. Besides aches and pains, several other, more serious problems can result.

Hips and Pelvis: Strain here can result from being on your feet for too long.

Feet and ankles: Being overweight and also being on one’s feet for extended periods of time can cause problems.
