When people complain about body aches and pains because of their work hours, they probably blame the work load they have.
More often than not, people fail to identify the real cause of those pains and tend to look for reasons in the wrong places. This is the reason why it is important to know the right ergonomic posture.
Let’s face it; working long hours in the office or at home can really be tiring. Sometimes, we do not notice the build-up of stress in our bodies because of wrong ergonomic posture.
If you add the build up of body discomforts with the natural stress you get from working, you end up with long term complications on all parts if your body.
If this is the case, regardless if we have good ergonomic furniture or not, the body pains and complains will never go away.
Knowing the proper posture is always an added benefit for you. It never hurts anyone to follow certain ergonomic posture guidelines not only to eliminate body pains, but also maximize and produce quality results from your work as well.
Here are five proper ergonomic posture tips you can practice while working those long hours:
- Always keep your head at the same level as your monitor to reduce strain to the eyes. Do not level the computer monitor too low for that you have to tilt your head slightly facing downwards or you may add strain to your neck and eventually acquire long term neck pains in the future.
- To maintain a good ergonomic posture, always keep your back straight when engaging yourself with work. Try to avoid slouching at all times since this is the major reason why people acquire back pains. Try leveling your chest to your shoulders to ensure that your back does not take more stress than it already is. By straightening your back, you make good use of the design of your ergonomic chair which was solely intended to keep your back in a firm position.
- When typing on your personal computer, it is good ergonomic posture to always keep your hands leveled slightly below your chest. By doing this, it adds less strain to your wrists which usually receives the brunt of upper body’s weight while typing. If you have an ergonomic keyboard, you might as well take full advantage of its features and do not forget to minimize the movement of your wrists as this may tire them and ruin your ergonomic posture.
- Always keep your feet flat on the ground while you are working. By keeping it flat, you minimize the excessive movements that may cause a domino effect that may trigger other parts of your body to fall out of place from proper ergonomic posture.
- Get a comfortable chair which can help you sit straight and maintain your posture. Take a break every now and then, stretch those tired muscles or walk around the office.
With all that said, following the proper ergonomic posture may avoid a lot of injuries. Remember that long term injuries only occur after a long period of time due to bad habits and routine.
It may, in the future, prove to be somewhat of a disadvantage if the proper ergonomic posture is not followed because of excessive bills in trying to relieve you from terminal body pains which could have been avoided on the onset.
