Prevention Is Key To Reducing Workers Compensation Claims

 

As workers compensation claims increase at an alarming rate, it becomes clear that modern work requirements have created the work climate that sees more Repetitive Stress Injuries among workers by the day.

As people get stuck behind desks doing routine work or long hours tied to a computer, RSIs have showed a marked increase as the people in Human Resources departments of workplaces will tell you.  Many experts believe that this is caused by something as simple as poor office ergonomics.

The inevitable fall out of the RSI injuries caused is reduced worker productivity and claims paid out by the company, each of which causes a severe drain on company resources and a whittling away of profits.

As such it becomes important to tackle the situation in a twofold manner:

  • The management ought to invest some time, money and effort in providing ergonomic work spaces for employees. Not only will this cause less injury resulting in absenteeism and lower productivity, it will also save money in terms of fewer injury claims.
  • Employees can themselves familiarize themselves with the principles of ergonomics and make changes in the work place and tailor their work habits to a healthier model.
