Places such as call centers and others that cater to customer care; can be greatly enhanced by putting ergonomic principles into practice.
Proper ergonomics can address health and efficiency concerns in general as well as with specific reference to customer care in the following way -
- If an individual is comfortable in his seat, when seated for long durations, then he or she doesn’t feel the need for repeated readjustment, so that they can concentrate better on the job at hand, in this case handing customer queries/complaints.
- Loss of productivity due to work related injury can be minimized with ergonomics.
- Ergonomic tools such as an adjustable chair and monitor, optimized keyboard, footrest and task light and training as regards the proper use and adjustment of the equipment can also be of vital importance.
- Whereas it was earlier thought that the 90 degree seating position is ideal, new research has revealed that any kind of static positioning can cause fatigue. So employees can also greatly benefit from training that involves movement. They should therefore be taught the proper method of stretching the torso, arms and fingers, adjusting their chair, taking walkabout breaks, frequently standing up from the sitting position and also looking away from the monitor at regular intervals
Thus a healthier and happier workforce also means better client servicing.
